Some coffee makers are designed to disappear into the morning. The Hario Technica invites you to stay for the process.
Syphon brewing turns the preparation of coffee into something wonderfully visible. Water rises through the glass chambers, meets the coffee above, then filters back down once the heat is removed. The movement is part of the pleasure—a slower, more deliberate way to make a cup when the experience matters as much as the result.
The Technica is Hario's classic interpretation of this distinctive brewing method. Its clear heatproof glass puts the entire process on display, while the metal stand and traditional alcohol burner give it the purposeful character of a piece of coffee equipment meant to be used, observed, and enjoyed.
With a practical 600 ml (20.3 fl oz) capacity, the Technica is particularly well suited to unhurried mornings, coffee shared after dinner, or simply those occasions when making coffee deserves a little more attention.

- Medium
- Add the desired amount of water to the lower bowl.
- Secure the filter inside the upper bowl.
- Place the lower bowl securely in the stand and position the alcohol burner beneath it.
- Light the burner. As the water heats, pressure will cause it to rise into the upper chamber.
- Add medium-ground coffee to the upper chamber and gently combine it with the water.
- Allow the coffee to brew until the desired extraction is reached.
- Remove the heat source. As the lower chamber cools, the brewed coffee will pass through the filter and return to the lower bowl.
- Once the coffee has fully drawn down, carefully remove the upper chamber and serve from the lower bowl.
Important note: Use only appropriate fuel-type alcohol intended for alcohol burners, as directed by Hario. Always follow the manufacturer's operating and safety instructions when working with an open flame.
